Team Interview - Joe Phillips
Getting to know who Joe Phillips is and what he does on a daily basis
When did you first start diving?
I started diving not so long ago, in 2014.
What made you start diving?
I was on holiday in Thailand and wanted to try it out. I enjoyed it so much that I decided to stay in Thailand and become a diving instructor.
What do you like about Malta?
The summer! I’m not really a winter type of person.
How long have you been working for Techwise?
I only started working at Techwise last year (2020).
What kind of diving do you personally enjoy?
I’m all about technical diving. Best type of diving there is.
What is your favourite dive site around the Maltese Islands?
The Polynesian! What a stunning wreck. If you ever get the chance to do it, go for it! You won't regret it.
What do you do on your non-diving days at work?
Actually, when I’m working, I always dive.
Favourite piece of equipment?
My JJ re-breather!!!! Best piece of equipment that I have added to my collection.
Where do you see yourself within 5 years of the diving industry?
My goal is to become a JJ re-breather instructor. Ask me the same question in 5 years time and I will be a JJ instructor.
Have you ever failed a student during a course?
Yes, I once had a student who just didn’t want to listen. He was unsafe in the water and refused to complete the theory. It's all about being safe!
What has been your best experience with Techwise so far?
That I get the opportunity to dive deep wrecks, such as the HMS Stubborn, Polynesian and the HMS Southwold.
